PUBG Creators Unveil Next-Gen Rival to The Sims
The Sims has long been one of the most influential series, offering some of the best games across its many installments. With Project Rene hinting at a potential Sims 5, the life simulation genre has seen a wave of new challengers like Paralives and Life By You, and now there’s another exciting competitor in the mix: inZOI from Krafton, the studio behind PUBG.
Krafton’s G-Star showcase provided an extensive look at inZOI, signaling the South Korean publisher’s serious intent to compete in the life sim space. Known for their success with PUBG Battlegrounds and the Dead Space-inspired The Callisto Protocol, Krafton appears ready to take on the best life simulation games on PC. Built with Unreal Engine 5, inZOI already looks stunning, combining a realistic aesthetic with sharp, fluid gameplay.
It’s encouraging to see more studios challenge EA’s dominance in the life sim genre. While I still love The Sims and am eager to see where the franchise goes next, competition is always beneficial for players. Based on early footage, inZOI is shaping up to be an exciting contender, standing out with its impressive visuals and well-thought-out design.
While a realistic look can sometimes strip a game of personality, inZOI manages to balance realism with charm. The cozy decor and homely environments are places where you’d actually want to live, a critical feature for any life sim. After all, what’s the point of simulating life if the world you create isn’t appealing?
The gameplay retains a familiar Sims-like quality, from the exaggerated interactions between characters to the creative process of painting, which unfolds step by step. The crafting system looks intuitive, and the world feels lively, packed with activities. The catchy soundtrack is also bound to stick with you, long after the game footage ends.
Sims YouTuber Madi ‘acottonsock’ was among the early testers and believes inZOI has huge potential, especially since Krafton is actively listening to player feedback. She noted that the current build feels light on consequences, such as the impact of not meeting a Zoi’s needs, but was optimistic about its future, a view I share.
